U have a bunch of frens...a lot of frens....
Whenever u get bored, u open the phone book and there's a long list of frens that u can call out and have fun...
Every night hang out with different bunch of frens is not a prob for u....
BUT
when u r not happy, with lots of problems bothering u...
Financial....love.....career.....
U wanna find someone that willing to listen what u say..Understand u...give u advise...comfort u...
Scrolling the phone list, can I talk with A?or talk with B better? C willing to listen to me? or D is the one that I can share thoughts?
From A to Z......it's hard to get one true fren....
Many friends V.S A true friend, which one better?

U gained a lot of skills while working...
In terms of programming language that u know..
U know C++, Java, C#, all kinds of scripting languages, asp, jsp, dot net......
U know a lot....
While composing ur resume, u always feel like can't get enough space to write down all things that u know....that's the only thing that troubling u...
BUT
When ur new boss requests u to develop a new system from scratch using only one of the programming language..
U can't do that...cos u know how to use C++ to build the interface, u know how to use Oracle to build the database, u know how to build the engine using JAVA...
The problem is....u dunno how to integrate everything and build the system....
Many skills V.S Master one skill, which one better?

U going to have dinner....and u looking for a restaurant..
U get into a restaurant that got a lot of branches all over Malaysia..
U sit down, stomach making noise..
U look at the menu, they have so many varieties of food in their menu.
Rice, fried? Kwong Dong style? Malay style? Indian style? Italian style?.....
Noodle, Spicy? Sweet? Sour? with Chicken? with Beef? with Seafoods?...
Woosh...hard to pick...well...u feel like wanna eat Claypot LouShuFan..
U expecting the food should be nice cos got lots of branches..
Should be no problem...
BUT
the food is very disappointing...
Claypot LouShuFan but it tastes like spaghetti with tartar sauce...
Chocolate Mint Shake but with little bit watermelon juice inside...
Fruits jelly with mix of Char Siew sauce makes u a bit disorder...
Ahh...suddenly u miss the famous restaurant that only available at Puchong very much...
Varieties of foods V.S An unbelievable tasty food, which one better?

There are still a lot of cases/scenario that we face everyday similar to the above case.
But looking into above situation, I think I will go for... a best friend, mastering a skill and pick the famous tasty restaurant.
But this decision is only come after I go for what we usually tend to pick...I want to have a lot of frens around me, I want to gain many many skills and go to the restaurant that many many choices...
If u are a boss, u interviewing two ppl. One, his resume is thick like a dictionary, stating he knows everything...
Another one, the resume is only one page, with only one skill.
Which one do u hire?
Sometimes...we get fooled by the Quantity and neglecting the Quality...
Is it really true that the more the better??

To me... I think quality is really important... unfortunately I have alot quantity instead of quality... :(
hmmm depends lor.. i dun think can say like that.
u have many friends doesnt mean only 1 of them is good. u might just need to know them better..
u gain many skill doesnt mean u will only use 1.. sometimes need combo.. like our job.. IT + business..
u eat quantity.. sometimes can be many nice food also..
hard to say right? see luck lorr.. and opportunities..
jolcy --> well in that case i think better make up ur mind and pick only one and boost that up, agree?
sca1lywag --> No no no..u get me wrong. For the skills example u mentioned, what i wanna say is the skill that in same field. I do agree that out job need IT + business. What i wanna say is..Instead of u know FORMS, IDOC, WORKFLOW and others abap core skills, y dun just pick one like WORKFLOW and boost on that skill? Look at our fren Jack.
For the food one, 'sometimes can be many nice food', that in terms of quality lor...they have quantity but yet manage to keep up their quality, sure success lor..what i wanna say is, if they keep comin out with different kind of foods, but not improving one of them, they dunhav the quality, just quantity, is that a success? Y dun pick one of the food and boost that become the famous one, the recommended one, once ppl think of eating that food will think of ur restaurant, aren't that better?
In short you wanna ask whether its better to be a jack of all trades, master of none or vice versa right? I think i'd prefer somewhere in between. Quality or quantity... it all depends on the situation really. Some situations need you to know alot of things but only surface knowledge is enough whereas some situations need you to have a very advanced knowledge on a certain skill and nothing else.
you cant have the best of both worlds..it is just as simple as that. it's unfair and we just have to suck it in..nothing is fair in this world..
i have lots of friends/acquaintances or however you want to say it and of course they fill up my time, but how many of them actually care for what i feel and what i think in times of need? not even a handful of them. sometimes you need them at unexpected times, but when you really need someone to be there for you at all times, it's really hard to find that person. So you really can't get the best of both worlds, and when you do, do let me know how. have a great day.
